Blackwell PC Series Review
Well the long awaited review of the Blackwell Series. This review is going to be posted under retro reviews and current gen reviews and PC adventure reviews. Why is that? Well the graphics have a nice retro feel to them. It's a point and click adventure. The story in the series I think is very well done. Most the time you want to move forward to see what happens next in the story. For most of the series you play as Rosa. A quiet writer you suddenly becomes a spirit medium like her aunt and her grandma. Both of them eventually went crazy so Rose worries about that. Her spirit guide is Joey. A noir character that always seems to have something witty or rude to say. You'll find ghosts and help them cross to the other side with a tie Joey uses. The first game has Rosa awakening to Joey and starting to help ghosts. Young girls seem to be killing themselves and it's up to Rosa and Joey to solve what's going on. The second game has you playing as Rosa's aunt. Solving murders where the victim gets choked to death. This also carries into the third game with Rosa. The fourth game has Rosa looking to find out why her friend was killed. I really don't want to give too much of the story away because that's what excels in this series. The graphics in the game are very retro but as the series moves on they get better, but they never lose that old game feeling. If you've played any lucas arts adventures then you know what I'm talking about. There is a collection of the first three bundled that have smoother graphics. The voice acting I liked but I did not like that they switched Rosa's voice actor after the first game. One of the cool things I like is you get to control Joey to solve problems. You may switch to him any time. You will need to use him a lot. This game has a lot of backtracking. You will also need to search for things in the games internet. I liked the idea but hated remembering how to spell certain words as the spelling has to be exact. Also to me it seemed certain times the characters just refused to do anything, like the first time Rosa has to talk to her neighbor. She refuses to talk to her because the neighbor is preforming for a group. Other then the minor frustrations this was a very good series. It doesn't end in a cliffhanging ether in case you were wondering. I give this game 8/10
